MCN Sees Increase in Spam Appearing to Be Sent from Customer's Own E-mail Address |
|
Notice an increase of spam creeping into your inbox lately? MCN is seeing an increase in the use of a spam scheme where the spammer makes the sender address the same as the recipient's address. If you've put your own email address on your Safe Senders List then, when the e-mail arrives appearing to have come "from" you, we don't screen it because any address on the Safe Senders List will bypass all the spam filters and go straight to your inbox.
In light of this most recent spam ruse, we recommend removing your address from your Safe Senders List . The worst that can happen is that a message that you send to yourself might be quarantined. You don't have to have an address in the Safe Senders List in order to receive mail from that address. What the Safe Senders List does is remove all screening for spam from an address. Review your Safe Sender List by going to: http//spamcontrol.mcn.org and then clicking on LISTS (in bottom left column)-->Safe Senders. Put a check by any safe sender you want to remove and then click the Delete button.
Please click here to view the Safe Sender List instructions, with screen shots, on our web site

Protect Your Domain Name with Whois Privacy: Protect your personal information and your domain from scams for just $1.99 per year per domain. The name, addresses, e-mails and phone numbers of domain name owners are entered into a publicly accessible database. MCN Whois Privacy masks Administrative, Billing and Technical contacts with generic information within public WHOIS databases and protects you from telemarketers and undesired third parties. If anyone makes an inquiry regarding your domain name, that will be forwarded to you by our registrar. You retain ownership of your domain. Some of the big name players in the domain market are charging $8 or $9 for this service, but we're charging just $1.99 in addition to our regular domain registration fee. And we'll give you Whois Privacy free for the remainder of your current registration period. Read more about Whois privacy at http://mcnsite.mcn.org/domain/domain.html or add Whois Privacy to your domains by sending an e-mail to domain@mcn.org.
