MCN Announces New Web Hosting Platform
MCN is pleased to announce that we are launching our new webhosting platform. At the core of the platform is a NetApp enterprise grade file storage system and load balanced Linux webservers. We are now beginning the orderly transfer of websites from our NTWeb, Web5, and Web6 servers. Customers will be contacted via e-mail and snail mail as to when their site will be moving. In order to keep migration issues to a minimum, we wil be placing a copy of the site on the new platform and pointing a test domain at it so that customers can make sure that their sites work on the new platform before they go live. We have already contacted all customers on the NTWeb server regarding migration. We will then contact customers are Web6 and then Web5.

PHP: Please note that we are moving from PHP 4.4.7 on web6 and PHP 5.0.4 on Web 5 to PHP 5.2.6 in the new environment. If you use PHP, you will want to check your code when your site is in test mode.
MySQL: If you have a MySQL database, please note that we will be moving from MySQL 4 to MySQL 5.0.4 on the new platform
Secure Certificates: The new generic secure certificate for this website will be secure7.mcn.org. This is a change from the old servers. Any coding which references the old certificate names will need to be redone.
Case Sensitive: The new platform is case sensitive. Therefore, if you have folders and files that have capital letters in them, your HTML code must match that same case structure. To illustrate this: the file image.jpg and another file IMAGE.JPG could exist in the same folder.
Realms: If you have a password protected area of your website, please let us know in advance so that we can put that in place on the test site.
Paths: There will be a slight change for FTP access. Instead of being dropped into your website, you will be dropped a level above your website which will be in a folder labeled "www". If you have your FTP program set up to automatically connect, you may need to adjust it.
Lasso: The new server platform will not support the Lasso scripting language. If you wish to continue to use Lasso, you will need to move to a hosting provider that supports it. Alternatively, you will need to re-code your site using one of the scripting languages supported on the site such as PHP.
NetCloak: The new server platform will not support the NetCloak scripting language. If you wish to continue to use NetCloak, you will need to move to a hosting provider that supports it. Alternatively, you will need to re-code your site using one of the scripting languages supported on the site such as PHP. The NetCloak program will be taken out of service on February 25th at 10 AM.
Sites using the www.mcn.org domain name: We would like to move away from any legacy folders with www.mcn.org followed by a letter, such as www.mcn.org/c/... and have those sites use subdomains instead.
