Greetings and a Happy New Year to everyone. Here's the latest news from MCN :

1. Take the MCN Survey: We've partnered with Survey Monkey to do an MCN customer survey. The survey is short. We encourage all customers to take the MCN Customer Survey on line at :

You need JavaScript enabled to view it and we'll send you a survey in the mail and enter the data for you. The survey will be available until Friday, February 5th.

2. New Products: In the December newsletter I told you that we would be upgrading some existing services and offering some new products in the new year. We're calling this rollout MCN 5 for '10. We plan to roll out five new products or upgrades to existing services in the next six weeks, so watch your e-mail for messages with the subject MCN 5 for '10.

3. Twitter: Are you a Twitter user? Follow MCN on Twitter. Our Twitter user is mcnisp and we're trying to put up interesting information about the Internet, computer security, and our services every day.

4. MCN Spoofed Spam: Recently there have been a rash of e-mail messages that appear to be coming from MCN asking customers to open attachments or click on links to update their accounts or security settings. These are all scams. MCN will not send you an attachment or ask you to click on a link to upgrade your setting in any of our messages unless we tell you on the phone that it is coming.

5. Brian Krebs Security Blog: In December I recommended a blog by then Washington Post security write Brian Krebs. Brian left the Post at the end of the year. The good news is that he has started his own blog at  I encourage anyone interested in computer security to follow this blog.

6. On Line Scams: The recent events in Haiti will no doubt spawn a slew of unscrupulous malware and spam attempting to capitalize on this tragedy. Remember that these scams can come in e-mails but also appear out there on the web. F-Secure has provided one example of malware download from a Google search.
